Gonadal development and sexuality of Larkinia grandis (Arcida: Arcidae) inhabiting southeastern Gulf of California

Larkinia grandis (Broderip & G.B. Sowerby I, 1829), an important fishing resource for Mexican communities, is Arcidae clam. It also considered a species with aquaculture potential. In this work we investigated the gonadal phases and sexuality in population of L. Gulf California. Our findings support hypothesis that there one male per female studied. documents shape, position color gonads are consistent observations other species. Additionally, five differentiated described males females (development, mature, spawning, post-spawning resting), noticeable presence brown cells during onset resting phase, suggesting those involved reabsorption remnants. asynchronous gametogenesis males, synchronic batch spawning defined. The results contribution can be used efforts to protect bivalve.
